Spain, a paradise for Choirs
Spain is a paradise for choirs coming from abroad. We have a multitude of churches and cathedrals with a great history behind them. Moreover, these monuments were built in different styles and periods. Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque or Renaissance. Great and impressive cathedrals or small and beautiful churches. They all have something to offer and a story to tell. The sound is spectacular. These temples were created to transmit, through sacred music, the religious message in the most impressive way possible. Singing here is a privilege that is available to the choirs that travel to Spain.
Sevilla Cathedral
The Cathedral of Seville is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and was built on the Almohad mosque. Of the old mosque, only the patio of the orange trees and the bell tower, which is known as Giralda, were preserved. Today, the Seville Cathedral and the Giralda are the most visited monuments in the city since they are, together with the Alcázar and the Archivo de Indias, the only part of Seville declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Historical Organs in Spain
In Spain, the organ was a very important instrument of our cultural heritage. In the 18th century, there were as many as 80,000 instruments. Extremadura has more than 80 historic organs throughout its geography. Among them, it is worth mentioning the organ of Garrovillas de Alconétar, in Cáceres, considered the oldest organ in Europe. The first written reference to the Renaissance organ of Garrovillas de Alconétar dates from 1578. Listening to it today is a real trip back in time.
